Te Deum

Anton Bruckner composed his Te Deum for four soloists, choir and orchestra between 1881 and 1884. The underlying tone of the work is set by the recurrent choral cluster consisting of empty fifths and unison, suggestive of grandness and endlessness. This main character alternates with lyrical passages of varying length performed by a smaller ensemble or unaccompanied choir, such as, shortly after the start of the piece, the “Tibi omnes Angeli” performed by soloists evocative of a choir of angels, and the “Te ergo quesumus” and “Salvum fac” on the same theme, with tenor solo and solo violin.
