Scherzo a la Russe

The "Russian Scherzo" was among Stravinsky’s discarded film music. It was originally intended to accompany a war film. Nothing eventually became of the film, but Stravinsky managed to rescue the material he had composed. He created a jazz band version for Paul Whiteman and his orchestra (1944). The symphonic orchestra version, that was premiered in 1946, proved a greater success.
