Stevan Hristic (1885-1958) was a composer, , in the first half of the twentieth century. His ballet `The Legend of Ohrid’ (1947) is apparently one of this most popular works. It was also the first Serbian ballet, and is based on a folk story with plenty of magic, romance, and chivalry. Hristic’s musical language is characterized by a rich melodic invention and an expert and colourful scoring. Stylistically it is somewhat conservative (but versatile) and relies on post-romantic and post-impressionistic elements, infused with folkloristic influences. Anyone who enjoys, the ballet music of Khachaturian or the Kodály dance sets will surely not be disappointed in this ballet suite.
