It was between composing the first and second parts of the Ring cycle and after completing Tristan und Isolde that Wagner wrote his sole comic opera. With its medieval setting, of course, this work goes far beyond a typical comic opera: it conveys a philosophy of life married to the composer’s own aesthetic principles. Returning to conduct this highly acclaimed Budapest Wagner Days production in 2025 will be Ádám Fischer, this time with the popular Magnus Vigilius as Walther von Stolzing, its amazing veteran Beckmesser, Bo Skovhus, Polina Pasztircsák as Eva, Gábor Bretz as Pogner and Cornel Frey as David.
