Kovács István kivételes adottság birtokosa: az etikai hitelesség, a tisztaság vagy megvan valakinek a színpadi egyéniségében, vagy nincs – ezt nem lehet csinálni.
István Kovács was born in Szombathely in 1972. He completed his studies in not just music but also medicine. His mentor for many years has been László Polgár, the world famous bass. He has enjoyed great success in singing competitions, among them the Graz “Schubert and the Twentieth Century” competition, and the Barcelona Francesco Vinas International Competition, where he won the Best Singer Prize in the oratorio category. In 1998, he won the special prize at the ARD competition in Munich, and was placed 3rd in the Salzburg Mozart Competition. In the 1999/2000 season, he performed in six productions at the Teatro Regio in Turin, but was also a guest performer in Stuttgard, the Strasbourg Opera, the Salzburg festival and the Frankfurt Opera. Naturally, he can frequently be seen at the Hungarian State Opera House as well.
