Sergei Koussevitzky commissioned Bart\u00f3k to compose his Concerto for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Bart\u00f3k contributed a small programme note for the Boston premiere: „The general mood of the world – excepting the second movement – represents a gradual transition from the seriousness of the first movement and the funeral dirge of the third to the affirmative closing movement. The title of this symphonic style work is explained by the concerto or soloistic treatment of individual instruments or groups. D\u00e1vid B\u00e1ll started to play the piano when he was eight and he got admitted to the B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k Conservatory of Music in Budapest at the age of 12. He enrolled the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 2001, his professors being Gy\u00f6rgy N\u00e1dor Andr\u00e1s Kemenes and Ferenc Rados, where he also completed his master studies in 2011 with great honour. He got several prizes including the third prize at the International Grieg Piano Contest in Oslo, in 2009, and the Audience Prize at the Sendai International Piano Competition in Japan. In Hungary besides other important awards, he was the proud winner of the S\u00e1ndor V\u00e9gh Competition in 2011. He appeared on stage together with Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis and the National Philharmonic: he was the soloist of Beethoven\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major and Liszt\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major.
