Istv\u00e1n D\u00e9nes conductor was born in Budapest. He studied piano and conducting at the Music University Franz Liszt in Budapest until 1977. During his studies as a conductor in the Hungarian State Opera House, he was granted scholarship by Sir Georg Solti so he could study at the Music University in Wien.\r\nFrom 1987 to 1995 he was the first conductor of the Theater Bremen and from 1995 to 2008 he was the musical director of the Theater in Trier. Furthermore he is the first guest conductor of the Hungarian State Opera House and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Budapest. As a conductor he is regular guest in the great Concerthalls and festivals in Europe.\r\nIstv\u00e1n D\u00e9nes made numerous radio performance and recorded albums for the Hungarian Radio Budapest, Radio Bremen and Radio Bavaria. In 1996 he conducted the Opera Sarema by Zemlinsky that was performed for the first time.\r\nAs a composer Istv\u00e1n D\u00e9nes wrote several pieces, including the \u201cTreveris -cantate\u201d for two women opera singer and for chorus\/orchestra, inspired by an ancient text written by Ausonius and Alquinus. In 2000 he wrote an interesting piece \u201cNokia Walz for piano\u201d and \u201cNokia-Walz for Orchestra\u201d incorporating the mobile phone for the first time in history of classical music.\r\nIn the last years he called attention to himself with a lot of discoveries, debut and first performance. The center of his musical act is on the interpretation of classical-romantic music and the modern music from the early 20th century.<\/p>\r\n

Brahms, Dvo\u0159\u00e1k bar\u00e1tja \u00e9s p\u00e1rtfog\u00f3ja, \u00edgy nyilatkozott r\u00f3la: \u201eBoldog zene! (Gombos L\u00e1szl\u00f3)<\/p>{:}{:en}The Carnival Overture<\/em> (op. 92) by Czech composer Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k (1841\u20131904) is often played as the first item in concert programmes. At the time it was written (1891), the composer had reached the zenith of his popularity. Before leaving for the United States to take up his job as director at the National Conservatory of Music of America in New York City, he composed Nature, Life <\/em>and Love<\/em>, a trilogy of overture. It received its world premi\u00e8re under the composer\u2019s baton at the Rudolfinum in Prague on 28 April 1892. Later, however, Dvo\u0159\u00e1k decided that they should be separate works and eventually published them as In Nature\u2019s Realm<\/em> (op. 91), Carnival Overture<\/em> (op. 93) and Othello<\/em> (op. 93).\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe main theme of Carnival<\/em> is not unlike an operatic crowd scene. According to the composer\u2019s description a lonely traveller arrives at dusk in a town celebrating carnival, loud with merrymaking and revelry. In the nocturne-like middle section the English horn, the flute, the oboe, the clarinet and the violin have a solo role, and amid swinging melodies the pentatonic \u201cnature\u201d theme from In Nature\u2019s Realm<\/em> is sounded more than once. The small codex from where Orff's word derived its text, was written sometime in the 1300's, presumably somewhere in France. It is not known how it finished up in the Benedictine Beuren Abbey, and for centuries, probably no one laid hands upon it. Then in 1803, its first publisher, J. A. Schmeller came upon it by accident and named it after the monastery's Latin name (Bura Sancti Benedicti), the Carmina burana. We do not know the authors of these Latin verses (sometimes mixed with fragments of French and German), which are satiric and moralising by turn. The only names to appear besides the poems are aliases (\"Archipoeta.\")<\/p>\r\n

Orff chose from this plentiful material to use the poem about the transmutations of fortunes as his motto (O Fortuna). This cantata-like composition (according to its original generic description, it was a \"scenic cantata\") then continues with verses proclaiming Spring. The subtitle of the second section: In taberna, takes us to the pub. On the imaginary stage, a drunken priest appears (the brief movement is a true Gregorian parody), then a comic catalogue ensues, detailing how people drink. The third section is about love, with occasionally piquant or erotic lines. Finally, the motto, O Fortuna returns.<\/p>\r\n

Carmina Burana was first performed in 1937. In the 1920's, Orff was deeply involved with modernising music teaching. He considered the most important aspect to be the teaching of rhythm, which takes centre stage in his pedagogical method. In his music, he expelled every kind of sensuousness, as he also did chromaticism. He took as his model Gregorian chant and the melodic world of all kinds of Medieval trubador music. He gives a prominent role to the percussion instruments (over the years, as part of his teaching goals, he designed a considerable number of drums). The advantages and disadvantages of the so-called Orff method are still hotly debated today. The majority of his compositions are rarely if ever performed in the concert hall, but from the moment of its premiere, Carmina Burana has enjoyed extreme popularity. He was born in Debrecen in 1983. After his graduation from Kod\u00e1ly Zolt\u00e1n Secondary School of Music (solfeggio and music theory; church music) in 2002, he started his studies in the conservatoire of the University of Debrecen. He has been learning singing since the age of eighteen with dr. \u00c9va Mohos Nagy. He won the J\u00f3zsef Sim\u00e1ndy Memorial Singing Competition in Szeged in 2006, the Ferruccio Tagliavini International Singing Competition in 2007, and received a special award in the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna a year later. He made his debut in the role of Melitone in La forza del destino in the Csokonai Theatre, Debrecen in 2005. In the next season he could be seen in the role of Sergeant Lescaut in Manon Lescaut and Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor.
