Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> Did you know that Haydn and his patron, Prince Esterh\u00e1zy, were passionate collectors of works by the most acclaimed composers of their time? This October, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian National Choir offer a fascinating glimpse into this musical legacy. Among the featured composers is Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, who worked in Hungary and taught several prominent Viennese masters. Despite his historical importance, his works are still relatively unknown today.<\/p>\n This concert will feature two newly rediscovered instrumental compositions by Albrechtsberger, which have waited nearly 200 years to be performed again. The program also includes Johann Nepomuk Hummel\u2019s rarely heard Trumpet Concerto and his grand Mass in D minor. Born in Bratislava, Hummel earned the admiration of the Viennese classical elite, yet his music also foreshadows the emotional depth of the Romantic era. And since we are speaking of Haydn and his time, the concert wouldn\u2019t be complete without one of Haydn\u2019s vibrant symphonies\u00a0-composed at Eszterh\u00e1za but instrumental in building his international fame in Paris.<\/p>\n The concert is conducted by Gy\u00f6rgy Vashegyi, visionary founder of the Haydneum and one of today\u2019s foremost experts in period music. His interest in historical performance was greatly influenced by Helmuth Rilling, John Eliot Gardiner, John Toll, Malcolm Bilson and Simon Standage.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has been a regular guest conductor for several Hungarian symphony orchestras and the Hungarian State Opera since the year 2000.\r\n\r\nHe founded the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Zenekar in 1991 and has been responsible for countless important opera and oratorio productions, as well as cantata and orchestral programmes.\r\n\r\nHis name is associated with dozens of contemporary world and Hungarian premieres, while he has also released some 30 albums with his groups. Since 2014, he has developed a close relationship with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, releasing the following French Baroque recordings through the Glossa music label: the world premier of Rameau\u2019s Les F\u00eates de Polymnie \u2013 Ballet h\u00e9roique<\/em>; the album Mondonville: Grands Motets<\/em>; a world premiere of Isb\u00e9<\/em>; the opera pastiche Un op\u00e9ra pour trois rois<\/em> and a theatrical performance of Rameau\u2019s Nais<\/em>.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has taught at the Academy of Music since 1992 and is currently an associate professor.
