Alexander Malofeev<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>piano Grace, variety, colour \u2013 Bizet\u2019s Suite No. 1 from the incidental music to L\u2019Arl\u00e9sienne<\/em> (The Girl from Arles) offers all this and more. Camille Saint-Sa\u00ebns\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor<\/em> dazzles the listener with its stylistic multiplicity, while Brahms\u2019s Symphony No. 3 in F major<\/em> does the exact opposite: it is an extremely unified piece of music that faithfully represents the composer\u2019s distinctive voice. The fifth concert of the Hungarian National Philharmonic\u2019s Kocsis season ticket will be conducted by the orchestra\u2019s chief music director, Gy\u00f6rgy Vashegyi. The piano concerto promises to keep us on the edges of our seats as its soloist is the stunningly talented Alexander Malofeev. The Russian virtuoso, who is just 23 years old, returns after his previous successful guest appearance with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n It is not enough that Georges Bizet\u2019s life only lasted 36 years, posterity has also reduced his legacy to a single work. Although Carmen<\/em> is undoubtedly a work of genius, the French romantic of singular taste produced much more output of value. Here we will hear Suite No. 1<\/em> from the incidental music to the Alphonse Daudet play L\u2019Arl\u00e9sienne<\/em> (The Girl from Arles), a piece of work full of invention, richly blended colours and striking character. The same abundance of hues is also typical of Saint-Sa\u00ebns\u2019s Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor<\/em> \u2013 and it is perhaps this quality of the work the noted Polish pianist and composer Zygmunt Stojowski picked out when he ironically joked that the composition begins with Bach and ends with Offenbach. Stylistic heterogeneity is not a feature typical of one of Brahms\u2019s most popular works, Symphony No. 3 in F major<\/em>, however, as the piece captures the unique voice of the composer from the first note to the last. It is Brahms through and through. The fifth concert of the Kocsis season ticket will be conducted by the Kossuth Prize-winning chief music director of the Hungarian National Philharmonic, Gy\u00f6rgy Vashegyi, while the marvelously His interest in historical performance was greatly influenced by Helmuth Rilling, John Eliot Gardiner, John Toll, Malcolm Bilson and Simon Standage.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has been a regular guest conductor for several Hungarian symphony orchestras and the Hungarian State Opera since the year 2000.\r\n\r\nHe founded the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Zenekar in 1991 and has been responsible for countless important opera and oratorio productions, as well as cantata and orchestral programmes.\r\n\r\nHis name is associated with dozens of contemporary world and Hungarian premieres, while he has also released some 30 albums with his groups. Since 2014, he has developed a close relationship with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, releasing the following French Baroque recordings through the Glossa music label: the world premier of Rameau\u2019s Les F\u00eates de Polymnie \u2013 Ballet h\u00e9roique<\/em>; the album Mondonville: Grands Motets<\/em>; a world premiere of Isb\u00e9<\/em>; the opera pastiche Un op\u00e9ra pour trois rois<\/em> and a theatrical performance of Rameau\u2019s Nais<\/em>.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has taught at the Academy of Music since 1992 and is currently an associate professor.
