The programme ranges from Romanticism through the fin de si\u00e8cle period to the 20th century, with the\u00a0Prelude<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Isolde\u2019s Liebestod<\/em>\u00a0from Wagner\u2019s opera\u00a0Tristan und Isolde<\/em>\u00a0being followed by the rare treat of Ernest Chausson\u2019s song cycle\u00a0Po\u00e8me de l\u2019amour et de la mer<\/em>, composed between 1882 and 1890 and revised in 1893, and Bart\u00f3k\u2019s late masterpiece, written in America,\u00a0Concerto for Orchestra<\/em>.<\/p>\n The focus this evening is on a unique performer and a magically beautiful masterpiece that still remains to be discovered, as Gy\u00f6rgy Vashegyi, general music director of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducts them in a programme of German Romantic, French fin de si\u00e8cle and 20th-century Hungarian music on the stage of M\u00fcpa Budapest. Serving as the ensemble\u2019s guest soloist is the world-famous German operatic soprano Marlis Petersen, who will sing Ernest Chausson\u2019s song cycle\u00a0Po\u00e8me de l\u2019amour et de la mer<\/em>, which he composed between 1882 and 1890 and revised in 1893. This refined and visionary French music will be preceded by the passionate German Romantic sounds of the\u00a0Prelude<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Isolde\u2019s Liebestod<\/em>\u00a0from Wagner\u2019s opera\u00a0Tristan und Isolde<\/em>. His interest in historical performance was greatly influenced by Helmuth Rilling, John Eliot Gardiner, John Toll, Malcolm Bilson and Simon Standage.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has been a regular guest conductor for several Hungarian symphony orchestras and the Hungarian State Opera since the year 2000.\r\n\r\nHe founded the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Zenekar in 1991 and has been responsible for countless important opera and oratorio productions, as well as cantata and orchestral programmes.\r\n\r\nHis name is associated with dozens of contemporary world and Hungarian premieres, while he has also released some 30 albums with his groups. Since 2014, he has developed a close relationship with the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, releasing the following French Baroque recordings through the Glossa music label: the world premier of Rameau\u2019s Les F\u00eates de Polymnie \u2013 Ballet h\u00e9roique<\/em>; the album Mondonville: Grands Motets<\/em>; a world premiere of Isb\u00e9<\/em>; the opera pastiche Un op\u00e9ra pour trois rois<\/em> and a theatrical performance of Rameau\u2019s Nais<\/em>.\r\n\r\nVashegyi has taught at the Academy of Music since 1992 and is currently an associate professor.
