Krist\u00f3f Bar\u00e1ti<\/strong>\u00a0violin Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong><\/p>\n Conductor: G\u00e1bor Tak\u00e1cs-Nagy <\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n This season of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra revolves around the spirit of Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis. In November, we commemorate the anniversary of his death with a concert, while on his birthday at the end of May we, together with the Academy of Music, are organising the Day of Hungarian Classical Music with the intention of creating a tradition, nurturing old values and encouraging the birth of new ones.<\/p>\n Lajos Husz\u00e1r was born in Szeged in 1948. His work as a composer combines tradition with the tools of modernity. He wrote his opera Silence<\/em>, based on a story by B\u00e9la Bal\u00e1zs, between 1994 and 1998. His work being played on this occasion, The Silence Spoke to Me<\/em>, is an arrangement of a section of that opera. B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k\u2019s Violin Concerto No. 1<\/em>, composed around 1907-08, was inspired by the young composer\u2019s unrequited love for the violinist Stefi Geyer. The two-movement work would only be premiered in 1958, after both she and the composer had died. Ernst von Dohn\u00e1nyi\u2019s series of Hungarian folk songs Ruralia Hungarica<\/em> was considered one of the composer\u2019s most popular pieces during his lifetime, but today it can only be heard occasionally. Dohn\u00e1nyi arranged five of the seven movements of the original piano version of the 1924 work for orchestra. Krist\u00f3f Bar\u00e1ti is one of the most significant Hungarian violinists of our time, one whose music is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world. The concert\u2019s vocal soloists, Adrienn Miksch, Andrea Mel\u00e1th and M\u00e1t\u00e9 F\u00fclep, are all outstanding Hungarian singers.
