The concert is a tribute to the memory of Vilmos T\u00e1trai, the legendary concertmaster of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, who was born 110 years ago.<\/p>\n

This concert features two Czech rarities bookending a large-scale Austrian work that is itself likewise an infrequent guest at concert halls. Dvo\u0159\u00e1k, Bruckner, Jan\u00e1\u010dek \u2013 creative artists from the turn of the 20th century. One symphonic piece permeated with love of homeland and two works of church music. Thix concert provides an opportunity for the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra to take the stage alongside the Hungarian National Choir, and conductor J\u00e1nos Kov\u00e1cs is not only at home in any genre, but is a particularly skilled interpreter of vocal music thanks to his vast operatic experience.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The subject of Franti\u0161ek Ferdinand\u2019s play \u0160amberk is the Czech dramatist Josef Kajet\u00e1n Tyl, who penned the words to the country\u2019s national anthem. Dvo\u0159\u00e1k wrote the incidental music for it in 1881\/82 \u2013 of which the My Homeland overture <\/em>comprises a part. Although Wagner\u2019s disciple Anton Bruckner was a composer of symphonies, he also composed liturgical works, the most successful of which was his Te Deum<\/em> (from 1885). With its unique sound and harmonic world, Jan\u00e1\u010dek\u2019s Glagolitic<\/em> (Old Slavic) Mass<\/em> from 1926 is considered an apotheosis of the idea of Pan-Slavism.<\/p>\n

Polina Pasztircs\u00e1k, Atala Sch\u00f6ck, Attila Fekete and Istv\u00e1n Kov\u00e1cs are top singers who are highly acclaimed both in Hungary and abroad, and who often perform on the concert stage in addition to their operatic triumphs. Born in 1951, J\u00e1nos Kov\u00e1cs is one of the most frequently engaged conductors in Hungary. He studied at Budapest\u2019s Liszt Academy under Andr\u00e1s K\u00f3rodi. He has long been connected to both the Hungarian State Opera and the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in many ways. His collaboration with the Hungarian National Philharmonic has also been a fruitful one for many
