The programme of the concert is a reflection of two important efforts. The first is the recent \u00a0\u201cre-acquisition\u201d of Baroque music by traditional symphonic orchestras. In recent decades, as the practice of historically informed performance has gained ground, symphonic ensembles have given up performing Baroque works. This repertoire needs to return to symphonic concerts \u2013 enhanced, naturally, by the lessons of historically informed performance. The other important effort is nurturing the Hungarian repertoire of the present and recent past.<\/p>\n

Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3<\/em> and Orchestral Suite No. 2<\/em> are two exceptionally beautiful and widely popular pieces of the composer\u2019s oeuvre \u2013 with the latter also being a beloved gem of the musical literature written for the flute as well. Kod\u00e1ly’s Psalmus hungaricus<\/em>, written to text by Mih\u00e1ly Kecskem\u00e9ti V\u00e9g, dates from 1923, the 50th anniversary of the unification of Pest, Buda and \u00d3buda, and has since become a national relic of Hungarian music history. One of the greatest treasures of Hungarian culture, this work expresses the spiritual world of the nation in a tragicomic voice. L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Dubrovay wrote his one-movement cantata Cantata aquilarum<\/em> (“Song of the Eagles”) to a cycle of poems by Tibor Gyurkovics: the patriotic work addresses questions regarding the fate of the Hungarian people and the importance of national unity. J\u00e1nos B\u00e1lint is one of Hungary’s most outstanding flutists and regularly performs in his home country and abroad as both a soloist and a chamber musician. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in 1984 before pursuing post-graduate studies with Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n. Between 1981 and 1991, as solo flautist of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, he won prizes at a number of international competitions (e.g. Ancona, Leipzig.) He has been a member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001. From 1990, he taught for over a decade at the Szeged Music College and for a year and a half at the Budapest Music Academy. From 1994, he worked as a guest professor at the Accademia Musicale di Rovigo in Italy, and did the same from 2000\u00a0 at the Imola Incontro Col Maestro private academy. Since 2003, he has taught as a university professor at the Detmold Music College. He is the founder and artistic director of the Veszpr\u00e9m Auer Summer Academy. Each year, he conducts 8 to 10 master courses at various European institutions and festivals (among other, Vienna, Helsinki, London, Luxemburg). He has performed as a soloist at many European festivals and concert halls as well as in the United States, Japan, Taiwan and Israel. He has worked with artists such as Ruggero Ricci, Gy\u00f6rgy Cziffra, Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n, Aur\u00e9le Nicolet, Alain Marion, Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis and Tam\u00e1s V\u00e1s\u00e1ry.
