The night before the anniversary of this date is when the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra opens the Budapest concert season. This special evening always features the music of Bart\u00f3k, but can also include pieces by other composers. As an additional draw to the concert this time around, the Hungarian National Philharmonic&#8217;s management has succeeded in enticing home, for a single appearance, a young Hungarian conductor who is rarely seen here in his native country as he wins ever greater accolades abroad. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bart\u00f3k&#8217;s 1943 five-movement symphony-like <em>Concerto for Orchestra<\/em>, commissioned and later premi\u00e8red with the Boston Symphony Orchestra by conductor Serge Koussevitzky, is a monumental artistic achievement from the conductor&#8217;s years in America. Although its classification as a concerto refers to the many representative instrumental solos it contains, its emotional message conveys the homesickness of an artist torn from his native land.\u00a0 Ern\u0151 von Dohn\u00e1nyi was also an \u00e9migr\u00e9 when, eleven years later, he wrote his rarely heard <em>American Rhapsody<\/em>, the first piece in the concert. Commissioned by Ohio University, the piece treats popular American melodies in the format of a fantasy. Between these two orchestral compositions, we will hear the only concerto that Beethoven ever wrote in a minor key. The weighty and serious sound of the <em>Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor<\/em>, which dates from 1800, reveals the influence of the piano concerto that Mozart composed in the same key. Dezs\u0151 R\u00e1nki is one of the leading figures in the international community of pianists and a world-famous member of the revolutionary new generation that took over in the 1970s. From the Met to Covent Garden and Zurich, Henrik N\u00e1n\u00e1si is at home in many of the world&#8217;s major opera houses and concert halls. Allegro\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nNew research suggests that the Third Piano Concerto was sketched in 1802 and completed early in 1803, three years later than previously believed. The middle work among Beethoven's five piano concertos, it looks both backward and forward: backward to Mozart, whose own C-minor concerto (K. 491) was a very noticeable influence; and forward to the radical innovations of the last two concertos. Also, the key of C minor held a very deep personal meaning for Beethoven as his \"tragic\" tonality. The line of great C-minor works, which already included the earlier \"Path\u00e9tique\" Sonata and the String Quartet op. 18,\u00a0 No. 4, leads through the C-minor concerto to such later masterpieces as the Fifth Symphony and the last piano sonata (op. 111).\r\n\r\nThe opening Allegro con brio movement of the concerto starts with a military motif played by the strings in unison. Out of this almost banal material and a contrasting, lyrical second theme, Beethoven created an elaborate movement in which each thematic component is subjected to extensive thematic development. One of the most remarkable moments comes at the end when, after the cadenza, the pianist doesn't drop out but instead continues with sixteenth-note passages against the timpani playing part of the main theme.\r\n\r\nThe melody of the second-movement Largo is simple in itself, but the lavish ornamentation it receives makes it shine with special splendor. The enchanting parallel thirds of the pianist's second solo entrance further add to the magic, and the repeated sudden modulations into remote keys increase the dramatic tension. The movement ends with a soft, lyrical coda, cut short by a single fortissimo chord. The tonality of this slow movement, E major, is very distant from the original key of C minor. It is a most unusual key relationship - and Brahms duplicated it exactly in his First Symphony.\r\n\r\nGiven the distance between the two keys, Beethoven felt the need to build a \"bridge\" between the two, making use of the fact that the notes G-sharp (which occurs in E major) and A flat (which belongs to C minor), are one and the same. He emphasises this pitch both at the end of the second movement and at the beginning of the third, making the transition almost imperceptible. The Rondo itself combines a playful rhythmic scheme with a melody built around the diminished seventh, an interval with traditionally tragic connotations (the same combination of effects is also found in the last movement of Mozart's C-minor concerto). One of the more remarkable features in Beethoven's finale is the brief development of the main theme as a fugue, immediately followed by a typical Beethovenian jolt: he crosses the G-sharp\/A-flat bridge again, this time in the opposite direction, revisiting the E-major tonality of the slow movement. After re-establishing the home key, Beethoven proceeds with the recapitulation, culminating in a short cadenza. The movement ends with a Presto coda, set apart by a change of meter (from 2\/4 to 6\/8) and another change of key (from C minor to C major), to resolve the dramatic tensions by a cheerful and carefree conclusion.{:}","post_title":"{:hu}III. N\u00e9pszer\u0171bb hangv\u00e9tel az amerikai k\u00f6z\u00f6ns\u00e9g kedv\u00e9\u00e9rt? \u2013 Biztosan nem. Bart\u00f3k egy level\u00e9ben \u00edgy eml\u00e9kezett meg r\u00f3la: <em>\u201eOdament\u00fcnk a pr\u00f3b\u00e1kra \u00e9s el\u0151ad\u00e1sokra, miut\u00e1n ehhez az \u00fathoz megkaptuk az orvosok nem sz\u00edvesen adott enged\u00e9ly\u00e9t. \u00c9rdemes volt, az el\u0151ad\u00e1s kit\u0171n\u0151en siker\u00fclt. He has played among others with the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Orchestre National de Paris, the Tokyo NHK Orchestra and worked with a host of distinguished conductors such as Sir Georg Solti, S\u00e1ndor V\u00e9gh, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. He is an active chamber music performer and in recent years, has given 10 to 15 concerts a year with his partner and wife Edit Klukon, performing music for\u00a0 piano duet and two pianos.
