The audience for this concert will have the pleasure of listening to a selection of works which are emblematic of Beethoven’s middle period. The Creatures of Prometheus was originally written as a ballet and is particularly notable for its closing movement, which contains the famous theme the composer later developed into a large-scale variation for the final movement of Symphony No. 3. As the first mature example of Beethoven’s radicalism and powerful, bluntly personal sound, the Eroica Symphony, which was composed at the beginning of the 19th century, was a revolutionary milestone in the history of the symphonic genre and music in general. As the famous story goes, Beethoven wrote the symphony in tribute to Napoleon, the supposed embodiment of liberty, equality and fraternity, yet when he discovered that the First Consul had crowned himself Emperor, he tore up the title page \u2013 and the ‘hero’ (Eroica) title was removed from the sub-titles. The Triple Concerto, which was written in the same period, has a unique musical composition, while the closing movement features a bolero-like rhythm characteristic of the polonaise. This wonderful piece of music will be performed by three superb soloists: elder statesman Vilmos Szabadi has been one of the most outstanding violinists on the Hungarian music scene for several decades, Zolt\u00e1n Fej\u00e9v\u00e1ri, who belongs to the younger generation, is a returning performer for the Martonv\u00e1s\u00e1r concert series, and the 20-year-old Gergely Devich has in recent years emerged as a young prodigy with a glittering future as a violinist. Tibor Bog\u00e1nyi, who has had significant success in Finland and also appears regularly in Hungary, will conduct the Hungarian National \"\"Born in 1986, Zolt\u00e1n Fej\u00e9rv\u00e1ri was a student at Budapest\u2019s B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k Conservatory then he was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music to study with D\u00e9nes V\u00e1rjon and Andr\u00e1s Kemenes. From 2006 to 2008, he continued his studies on a scholarship to the Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica Reina Sof\u00eda with Dmitri Bashkirov. He won first prize at International Competition for Piano and Orchestra Cant\u00fa and second prize at both the RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition and the Ricard Vi\u00f1es International Piano Competition in Spain. In 2012 he was invited to take part in the Professional Training Workshop of Carnegie Hall\u2019s Weill Music Institute with Andr\u00e1s Schiff. He has taken part in several international music festivals. Mr. Fej\u00e9rv\u00e1ri has collaborated with such celebrated musicians as Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis, Iv\u00e1n Fischer, Gary Hoffman, Zakhar Bron, Frans Helmerson and Ivan Monighetti and given concerts with the Keller Quartet, Kod\u00e1ly Quartet, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Hungarian National Orchestra, Concerto Budapest Orchestra and Budapest Strings. The era marked by the name of J\u00e1nos Ferencsik and Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro was followed by a new chapter in the history of the orchestra when in 1997 Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis became general music director until his death. In almost two decades the National Philharmonic Orchestra underwent renewal. After the death of Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis, the Ferenc Liszt Award-winning Zsolt Hamar held the post of Musical Director at the Hungarian National Philharmonic from March 2017 to August 2020. He previously worked with the orchestra as its first permanent conductor and built up an impressive international career.\r\n\r\nThe Orchestra is one of the top interpreters of the work of B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k, and the albums of the Bart\u00f3k New Series<\/em> have won numerous accolades in Hungary and abroad.
