The world premiere of B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k’s Piano Concerto No. 1 took place in Frankfurt on 1 July 1927 under the baton of Wilhelm Furtw\u00e4ngler and featuring the composer himself. The concerto was first performed in Budapest on 18 March 1928. Once again, Bart\u00f3k performed the solo, with Ern\u0151 Dohn\u00e1nyi conducting the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. In this concerto, the orchestra and the piano operate as one: almost without pause they play in unison, sharing motifs and passing the initiative back and forth. The work can only be performed by musicians blessed with both the technical ability and wild temperament to conquer the solo, which even Bart\u00f3k admitted is fiendishly difficult. F\u00fcl\u00f6p R\u00e1nki<\/strong>, who was born in 1995 and has been playing Bart\u00f3k’s Piano Concerto No.1 since he was 18, is a musician who possesses these qualities. He has also won prizes at several other international competitions (taking second place at the Cadaqu\u00e9s Orchestra International Conducting Competition in Spain and first place at both the Portuguese Radio Conducting Competition and the Antonio Pedrotti International Conducting Competition in Trento, Italy). In 1997, he was invited by Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis to serve as first permanent conductor of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. After working as Lorin Maazel\u2019s assistant at the Salzburg Festival in 1998, he spent the years from 2000 to 2009 as the music director of the Pannon Philharmonic while simultaneously serving as first guest conductor of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto.\r\n\r\nA regular guest with orchestras and at concert halls around Europe, Japan and the USA, he has also appeared with nearly every symphonic ensemble in Hungary. Hamar has regularly conducted at the Hungarian State Opera since 2001 and is a welcome guest at opera houses in other countries as well. Between 2005 and 2011, he worked as a permanent conductor at the world-famous Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich. He has recorded works by Liszt together with the Hungarian National Philharmonic and Mahler\u2019s First Symphony<\/em> with the Pannon Philharmonic. \"Zongoraversenyt kell kompon\u00e1lnom. Ez nagyon hi\u00e1nyzik. Legk\u00f6zelebbi m\u0171vem ez lesz\" - nyilatkozta Bart\u00f3k B\u00e9la (1881-1945) egy interj\u00faban, 1925 november\u00e9ben. Bart\u00f3k ekkor m\u00e1r sz\u00e1mos nyugat-eur\u00f3pai vend\u00e9gszerepl\u00e9sen t\u00fal volt, s rendk\u00edv\u00fcl \u00edg\u00e9retesen alakult nemzetk\u00f6zi zongorista karrierje. A zenekari T\u00e1nc-szvit (1923) hirtelen t\u00e1madt eur\u00f3pai n\u00e9pszer\u0171s\u00e9ge pedig a komponista Bart\u00f3k ir\u00e1nt is felkeltette a nyugati zenei \u00e9let figyelm\u00e9t. Bart\u00f3knak \u00edgy \u00e9rthet\u0151en \u00e9get\u0151 sz\u00fcks\u00e9ge volt egy olyan nagyszab\u00e1s\u00fa m\u0171re, amelyben zeneszerz\u0151k\u00e9nt \u00e9s zongoram\u0171v\u00e9szk\u00e9nt egyar\u00e1nt megmutatkozhatott. Ilyenk\u00e9nt eddig csak az 1904-ben \u00edrt op. 1-es Rapsz\u00f3dia \u00e1llt rendelkez\u00e9s\u00e9re, \u00e1m ennek st\u00edlus\u00e1t\u00f3l Bart\u00f3k term\u00e9szetesen m\u00e1r messze elt\u00e1volodott.<\/p>

Tov\u00e1bbi \u00f6szt\u00f6nz\u00e9st jelentett Bart\u00f3k sz\u00e1m\u00e1ra Stravinsky Zongoraversenye, melynek sz\u00f3list\u00e1jak\u00e9nt az orosz mester 1924 \u00f3ta j\u00e1rta Eur\u00f3p\u00e1t \u00e9s Amerik\u00e1t. Bart\u00f3k 1926 m\u00e1rcius\u00e1ban hallotta a m\u0171vet, amikor Stravinsky a budapesti Zeneakad\u00e9mi\u00e1n l\u00e9pett f\u00f6l. Ekkor Bart\u00f3k m\u00e1r k\u00e9t \u00e9ve alig kompon\u00e1lt: meghangszerelte A csod\u00e1latos mandarint \u00e9s kor\u00e1bbi n\u00e9pzenei gy\u0171jt\u00e9sein dolgozott, de - a Falun c\u00edm\u0171 \u00f6tt\u00e9teles n\u00e9pdalcikluson k\u00edv\u00fcl - \u00faj partit\u00far\u00e1t nem \u00edrt. \"... hogy \u0151szinte legyek, m\u00e1r olyan but\u00e1nak, k\u00e1bultnak, \u00fcresfej\u0171nek \u00e9reztem magam az utols\u00f3 id\u0151ben, hogy igaz\u00e1n k\u00e9ts\u00e9gbe vontam, vajjon, egy\u00e1ltal\u00e1ban tudok-e m\u00e9g ujat \u00edrni\" - panaszkodott feles\u00e9g\u00e9nek k\u00fcld\u00f6tt level\u00e9ben.<\/p>

V\u00e9gre 1926 nyar\u00e1n tudott Bart\u00f3k \u00fajb\u00f3l kompon\u00e1lni, amikor egyed\u00fcl maradva Budapesten egy sor zongoradarabot v\u00e1zolt fel. Els\u0151k\u00e9nt, j\u00faniusban a Szon\u00e1ta k\u00e9sz\u00fclt el, majd a Szabadban c\u00edm\u0171 \u00f6tt\u00e9teles sorozat \u00e9s a Kilenc kis zongoradarab. Ezek ut\u00e1n az \"el\u0151tanulm\u00e1nyok\" ut\u00e1n fogott hozz\u00e1 Bart\u00f3k augusztusban a zongoraverseny meg\u00edr\u00e1s\u00e1hoz, amelyet novemberben fejezett be.
Bart\u00f3k I. zongoraversenye elveti a romantikus versenym\u0171vekben megszokott sz\u00f3l\u00f3hangszer-zenekar szembe\u00e1ll\u00edt\u00e1st, helyette egyfajta klasszika el\u0151tti, concert\u00e1l\u00f3 t\u00f6mb\u00f6kb\u0151l \u00e9s hangsz\u00edncsoportokb\u00f3l l\u00e9trej\u00f6v\u0151 hangszerel\u00e9si ide\u00e1lt k\u00f6vet. K\u00f6z\u00e9pen \u00e1ll a zongora, k\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00f6tte az \u00fct\u0151hangszerek: \u00fcstdobok, k\u00e9tf\u00e9le kisdob, k\u00e9tf\u00e9le r\u00e9zt\u00e1ny\u00e9r, triangulum, nagydob \u00e9s tamtam. E zongora-\u00fct\u0151 mag k\u00f6r\u00fcl h\u00e1rom k\u00f3rust alkot a szimfonikus zenekar: a faf\u00fav\u00f3k-k\u00fcrt\u00f6k, a trombit\u00e1k-harson\u00e1k \u00e9s a von\u00f3sok t\u00f6mbj\u00e9t. A nyit\u00f3t\u00e9telben a von\u00f3sok csak al\u00e1rendelt szerepet j\u00e1tszanak, a m\u00e1sodik t\u00e9telben a faf\u00fav\u00f3k-k\u00fcrt\u00f6k folytatnak p\u00e1rbesz\u00e9det a zongora-\u00fct\u0151 csoporttal, a fin\u00e1l\u00e9hoz a rezek \u00e9s \u00fct\u0151k vezetnek \u00e1t, s csak a z\u00e1r\u00f3t\u00e9telben sz\u00fcletik meg a teljes zenekar bekapcsol\u00f3d\u00e1s\u00e1val az igazi szimfonikus hangz\u00e1s. Hogy az I. zongoraversenyben a f\u00fav\u00f3s sz\u00ednek domin\u00e1lnak, az nemcsak a zenei anyag kem\u00e9ny szik\u00e1rs\u00e1g\u00e1val, kev\u00e9ss\u00e9 melodikus jelleg\u00e9vel magyar\u00e1zhat\u00f3, de Stravinsky hat\u00e1s\u00e1t is sejthetj\u00fck benne: az \u0151 Zongoraverseny\u00e9nek zenekar\u00e1ban ugyanis kiz\u00e1r\u00f3lag f\u00fav\u00f3sok szerepelnek. Az I. zongoraverseny hangszerel\u00e9si ide\u00e1j\u00e1t Bart\u00f3k az \u00f6t \u00e9vvel k\u00e9s\u0151bb \u00edrt II. koncertben m\u00e9g \u00e9lesebb k\u00f6rvonalakkal val\u00f3s\u00edtotta meg: itt a nyit\u00f3t\u00e9tel kiz\u00e1r\u00f3lag a f\u00fav\u00f3sok\u00e9, a m\u00e1sodik t\u00e9tel a von\u00f3sok\u00e9 (csak a k\u00f6z\u00e9pr\u00e9szben kapnak sz\u00f3t mellett\u00fck a f\u00fav\u00f3k), s a teljes zenekar itt is csak a fin\u00e1l\u00e9ba kapcsol\u00f3dik be.<\/p>

Az I. zongoraverseny m\u00e1sik jellegzetess\u00e9ge a monotematikus szerkeszt\u00e9s: a teljes m\u0171 egy alapk\u00e9pletb\u0151l fejlik ki. \"Mint a sejtoszt\u00f3d\u00e1s, vagy a magb\u00f3l sz\u00e1rba sz\u00f6kken\u0151 n\u00f6v\u00e9ny: itt is a legegyszer\u0171bb, a legkisebb zenei mozdulat ind\u00edt el egy meg\u00e1ll\u00edthatatlannak tetsz\u0151 folyamatot, amelyben a kicsib\u0151l nagyobb lesz, az alapvon\u00e1sok az \u00faj meg \u00faj vari\u00e1nsokra is \u00e1t\u00f6r\u00f6kl\u0151dnek, egyes von\u00e1sok le\u00e1gaz\u00e1sokban kiteljesednek\" - \u00edrja ezzel kapcsolatban Somfai L\u00e1szl\u00f3. Ami az I. zongoraversenyben saj\u00e1tos, az az, hogy ez az alapk\u00e9plet, ez \"a legels\u0151 zenei sejt [...] nem t\u00e9ma, m\u00e9g csak nem is mot\u00edvum, hanem a ritmus puszta kalap\u00e1l\u00e1sa\". Mindh\u00e1rom t\u00e9tel a ritmusb\u00f3l sz\u00fcletik, annak \u0151sereje \u00e9lteti, annak indulata f\u0171ti a zen\u00e9t. Bart\u00f3k composed his first concerto in 1926 and it was premiered the following year, under Furthw\u00e4ngler, with the composer as soloist. The first movement feels like a heated battle, fuelled by a variety of contrasting emotional impulses. The slow movement is a taut, gripping dialogue between the piano and the percussion instruments. Bart\u00f3k here employs new techniques, describing precisely how the percussionist is to use his instruments. The confessional melody at the centre of the slow movement - played on the piano - is in contrast to the function hitherto allotted to it. Before the movement is over, a detail from the third movement is heard. The finale uses baroque stylistic elements.
