Their versatility is illustrated by this concert constructed around the spirit of Christmas, in which we will also hear the familiar hymn of joy and brotherly love in the concert&#8217;s second half. Opening the concert will be the deservedly popular mixed choir piece by Spanish neo-Romantic composer Javier Busto, and the choral piece set to the medieval Marian hymn by Englishman Benjamin Britten will also leave the audience into an awed silence. Kolinda, which performs the psalm-inspired folk verses set to music by J\u00e1nos Vajda in the 1980s, invites us to a joyful shared celebration reminiscent of a pagan ritual, rather than sending us into internal ecstasy. Presto<\/p>\r\nBeethoven's more frequently performed symphonies have tended to attract nicknames: thus the Third is known as the Eroica, the Fifth as the \"Fate\", the Sixth is the Pastoral, while the Seventh is often refered to as \"The apotheosis of the dance\" (a quote from Wagner). The Ninth though, is generally known as \"The Ninth\", proving that Beethoven had truly said the last word in the genre, and had gone way beyond all the masterpieces that had come before. It is no accident that many of the great symphonic composers of later generations growing up in Beethoven's shadow (Schubert, Bruckner, Dvorak and Mahler) could not themselves go on to complete a tenth symphony.\r\nThe Ninth symphony still transfixes us somehow - unfortunately, for many, it has become synonymous with the Ode to Joy melody. This simplification has some justification, since we know that Beethoven had long pondered setting Schiller's verse to music - he first dwelt on the concept during his early Bonn years, and we know of similar plans dating from 1798 and 1812. And we also have the Choral Fantasy (1808), which although setting a different text, employs a melody that is an unmistakable predecessor to the tune that is now the European Union's anthem. We must not make the mistake though of hearing and regarding the first three movements as merely \"setting the scene\" for the Ode to Joy. The melody is a very simple one, and the variations that are built upon it only gain their appropriate dramatic weight because of the arduous path traversed to reach it - even though looking back, this pathway, when the bass strings with their wordless recitative reject fragmented details from the first three movement, appears an abberation. Beethoven himself (in common with some contemporary analysts) was disatisfied with the finale and after the premiere, planned to compose an entirely new version. However, we know nothing about what this would have entailed. Could the new version have been \"better\" than the one we know today? Perhaps. But it is the resonance of the finale, its striving for greatness, that makes the Ninth \"The Ninth\", and at the same time, frames it as a deserving partner to the Missa Solemnis: in truth, neither instruments nor voices can ennunciate the final word.{:}","post_title":"{:hu}IX. She sang in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Denmark.\r\n\r\nIn 2000 she was awarded with a first prize in her category at the J\u00f3zsef Sim\u00e1ndy Singing Competition in Szeged. In the same year, she won the scholarship of the Budapest Opera Foundation. She debuted in the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, in Wagner\u2019s Siegfried. In 2001 she got admitted to the Studio of the Opera, at present she is a soloist of the Hungarian State Opera.\r\n\r\nShe performed in operas by Mozart (The Magic Flute), Bellini (Norma), Tchaikovsky (The Queen of Spades), Verdi (Macbeth, Simone Boccanegra, Falstaff), and Szokolay (Blood Wedding). Parallel to her organ studies, she started to learn singing. She has been the member of the National Choir since 2008. She often acts as leader singer as well. Over the course of that more than a quarter of a century, the ensemble became Hungary\u2019s leading professional choir, known for its performances of vocal compositions accompanied by orchestra, oratorios and a cappella works.\r\n\r\nAccordingly, its repertoire is extremely rich and open in every direction, encompassing the early Baroque composer Heinrich Sch\u00fctz, Bach, the Viennese Classical School, and the composers of the 19th and 20th centuries and of today, without prejudice to genre.\r\n\r\nCsaba Somos has served as the ensemble\u2019s artistic director since 1 January 2016.\r\n\r\nIn addition to performing concerts in Hungary, the ensemble regularly accepts invitations to appear abroad, having sung in numerous nations in Europe, as well as in Israel and Japan. In almost two decades the National Philharmonic Orchestra underwent renewal. After the death of Zolt\u00e1n Kocsis, the Ferenc Liszt Award-winning Zsolt Hamar held the post of Musical Director at the Hungarian National Philharmonic from March 2017 to August 2020.
