Imre Kovács - flute - section leader

I joined the orchestra in 1976, at 20 years of age, though my father began playing the flute in the Metropolitan Orchestra (its predecessor) in 1947, so I was born into the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. I was taken on by János Ferencsik, and worked with him for eight years.
In the 40 years that followed, I played with the very best conductors, soloists and orchestral colleagues, and performed in international concerts.
I am happy that I was able to enjoy the centenary celebrations as an active member, and I eagerly await the next 100 years in retirement!
