"Churchs" Season Pass 1.
Describing Biblical scenes, church windows and portraits of saints Ottorino Respighi’s symphonic tetralogy Vetrate di Chiesa (Church Windows) runs the gamut of emotions from the mystical to the ecstatic. The rarely heard work was inspired by a Gregorian chant, which Respighi transformed into a wonderfully rich and colourful way. Performed in the second half of the programme, the Symphony No. 3 is perhaps Honegger’s best-known work, expressing his desire for peace after seeing the crimes perpetrated by mankind during World War II. Performed in the magnificent space of Saint Stephen’s Cathedral, the programme will also feature some of Mozart’s church sonatas.
